There's a lot of talk about outsourcing these days and depending on who you talk with, in many cases the term is being misused.
There's a lot of talk about outsourcing these days and depending on who you talk with, in many cases the term is being misused. With that in mind, I wanted to try to put a finer point on where outsourcing begins and ends.
Outsourcing activities are generally in the same country.
Nearshore outsourcing (nearshoring) are projects that are outside the country, but on the same continent. Example: US company to Canada.
Offshore outsourcing (offshoring) are when projects are set to another continent. Example: US company to India.
When you start thinking in these terms, you realize that different levels of activity are being outsourced and offshored.
