Globalization is a hot topic. Since I earn a living via outsourcing, I am always asked of the benefits and drawbacks, so hopefully here we can find a balance by addressing its pros and cons.
What's so bad about outsourcing? My friend recently purchased a foreign-made HP computer and had trouble with the DVD drive. The toll-free tech support person, in another country, had an accent my friend had difficulty understanding. The fact that these tech support specialists earn far less than USA specialists makes it inviting for the computer companies, whose computer components are also made overseas. Further, the outsourced tech support person was unsuccessful in resolving the problem, so my friend was left having to start from scratch, hopefully with another support person with a better grasp of our country's language.
