The ministry of economy and energy has proposed to commercial banks that they should become active participants in the process of absorption of the EU structural funds. By this week's end the credit institutions have to come up with suggestions about the organisation of the process. We are seeking the partnership of the banks, because experience in other countries has shown that this is the most efficient method for EU fund absorption and control, deputy economy minister Nina Radeva said.

The heads of DSK Bank, UniCredit Bulbank, Economic and Investment Bank, and MKB Unionbank told the Pari daily that they support the idea and only have to agree on the details. My only concern is the role of the administration in the process, because the concentration of ample funds in the hands of low-paid state servants may create corruption, UniCredit Bulbank's CEO, Levon Hampartsumyan, commented.
