THE government is expected to be cleared of any wrongdoing over alleged CIA 'torture flights', the Manchester Evening News can reveal.
It is understood that an 18-month investigation led by Greater Manchester Chief Constable Mike Todd has found no evidence that anyone at Westminster knew about so-called 'extraordinary rendition' flights - if there were any.
A European Union inquiry published last year listed Britain among 14 European countries which it claimed let the American intelligence agency, the CIA, use their airspace for transporting illegally abducted terror suspects for interrogation.
Mr Todd was asked to investigate as part of his role at the Association of Chief Police Officers, where he is vice-president and a member of the terrorism committee.
