The Rs 150 million JV would simultaneously start manufacturing for both the domestic as well as export markets, Kinetic Communications MD Manish Motwani, who would also be the MD of Ducati Energia India, revealed.
The JV company would be setting up its own manufacturing facility at Chinchwad in Pune and would employ 200 people.
Motwani said the JV would look at exporting 50% to Ducati, while the other half would find its way into the domestic market including Kinetic`s inhouse requirement.
Ducati Energia would become an important outsourcing hub for Ducati Energia`s Far East, European and other markets, he added. Ducati Energia has a call option to acquire the partner`s 51% in the future so as to protect the technology, Motwani said.
The venture is in line with Ducati`s strategy to spread its wings globally. The Indian JV follows fully-owned plants in Romania and Croatia, while focus in Italy is on R&D and new product generation.
Ducati supplies to Piaggio, Aprilia, Honda Italia, Malaguti, Yamaha Motor, Bombardier, Rotax, Derbi, MBK, Rieju, Polaris, MVAgusta and Suzuki-Motor.
